quant tips[/u]
use MGMAT to refresh basics
even Kaplan online edition has good math refresher
if you are aiming for 51, OG is not good enough
for difficult problems, use GMATCLUB , GMATPREP and MGMAT tests
in addition, i used two books by Indian authors
THINK WITHOUT INK-good to make you use your brain and think
QUICKER MATHS-good short cuts and prac
after mastering basics, concentrate on DS-don't fall for traps
TO SCORE HIGHER IN QUANT, TIME MANAGEMENT IS THE KEY
don't worry too much about difficult problems
THE GMAT IS DESIGNED IN SUCH A WAY THAT YOU WOULD GET ONLY FEW DIFFICULT(RELATIVE TO YOUR ABILITY) PROBLEMS
don't take more than 3 mins on any problem-guess and move on-LEARN INTELLIGENT GUESSING- estimation, elimination, look for trap choices
IN MY GMAT, I GUESSED ON 6 TO 7 QUESTIONS, STILL GOT 51
use Kaplan to learn BACKSOLVING and PICKING NUMBERS
during my prac tests my scores used to be between 47 and 49(min-42, max-50)
so, it was nice to get 51 on the final day
I THINK, STICKING TO THE TIME PLAN WAS THE KEY

verbal tips
my verbal score doesn't justify giving tips, had aimed for 90 percentile, but could manage only 87
but, i improved from 27 at the beginning of my prep to 39, i had gone up to 45 in one of the Manhattan tests and 42 in GMATPREP
use MGMAT for learning and use only OG for prac

SC
MGMAT sc teaches you everything you need to know to ace GMAT sc
do the book 2-3 times and prac from OG 10,12 and OG verbal
keep identifying your weak areas from MGMAT tests and keep working on them

CR
not much learning required, but lot of practice with OG to find patterns
read the question first
PARAPHRASE the argument
CLASSIFY(analogy, cause-effect, sample rep
PREPHRASE the answer
read the answer choices and eliminate
REREAD the question and select final answer
if in doubt-GUESS amongst choices left and MOVE ON

RC
again, not much learning but a lot of practice with OG needed
read as long as your comprehension permits and then summarize in a few words
keep noting down changes in the text direction and key technical words-will help in searching details
comprehension more important compared to speed
don't skim through the passage-read it carefully noticing signal words
