Hi guys, I just took my exam today... first things first, BIG THANKS to Gmatclub The exam was just like a dream run, untill I screwed up on the last quant question... i got it right, but couldn't mark in time, so my quant exam was basically unfinished. Though it doesn't matter now, but would like to know how much difference would it have made if I had just guessed the answer and finished the exam? (just to rub some salt to my wounds) Does the penalty change with the number of questions remaining? I promise to follow up with a detailed post outlining my strategy, but too tired to do so now...

once again, thanks a ton everyone! Sid
Answering the last quant question correctly would have probably bumped you to a Q51 and a 770. I don't think there would be any difference in your score if you guessed incorrectly.
And grats!

I believe that would have been true. I scored a 760 with Q50 and V42. From what i gather, you were very close to that 770 and may have missed out slightly because of that last quant question. Nevertheless, great score...congrats..

Every unanswered question takes down your percentile by 3%
Since Q50 is 93rd and Q51 is 98th, there is no guarantee that you would have gotten Q51 but close. If you did, you would have gotten 770, but again, only IF you were close to 51

bb - if an answer is marked when time runs out, but not "submitted", does it count as unanswered?
Yes, it is supposed to be. However, someone tried in the GMAT Prep and they said it did not (but GMAT prep is not 100% as the real GMAT, so.... it is a wash)
I would recommend picking an answer choice for the last question regardless - click one just pick one.
I read somewhere(I think either in Princeton or Kaplan) that if you're running out of time, just pick any answer choice and then work on that problem, because even if you run out of time, the computer asks you to confirm submittion and, you can then change your answer if you have to!?!?! Not sure if there's any truth to that. Do let me know if someone has a better understanding on that

When the time is over, There is NO choice given for submission, The screen shot changes and your response is considered " Unanswered" though i don't know about the penalty for that.
