770 GMAT but no work experience [#permalink] New post 03 Nov 2010, 09:54
My elaborated profile:-

from very beginning

M/19/INDIA

Class 10 - 78%
Class 12 - 58% (2nd division) I think one of the weakest link of my profile

I am currently in pre-final year i.e. 5 semester of engineering
B.E. (Mechanical Engineering)
The university is very less known and in fact a bottom ranked university in India .
My GPA (CGPI) upto 4 semester is 8.2 out of 10.
Just given my GMAT in October for fun with only 10 days of sincere preparation.
Scores are Q51 and V44 (I must admit that I guessed at least 12 verbal questions I`m not sure about).
Quantitative is brilliant and I have almost 24 minutes left when I ended. (You can expect this from an engineer to be exceptional in Quant.).
AWA is only 4.0. (I screwed in anxiety)

Toefl iBT is 119. (Still I don`t know how ? surprised... as my weakest portion is verbal and I don`t speak good ascent.)

Achievements are as follows-

1. Managed a team of 50 members(volunteers) to organize school annual function.
2. Volunteer in robotics event organized in college.

I have zero work experience.

I wanted to join any of HBS, Stanford, Wharton, LBS, INSEAD, ISB (if selected in any.. ) just after engineering citing high GMAT and TOEFL

Shall I stand any chance citing my high GMAT and TOEFL or else what to do ?

LBS requires a minimum of 2 years exp. I don't know about the rest of the schools in the list but I think they need exp. too.

Since you are in final year, you could apply for HBS in round 3 and get a deferred admit which means you will join in 2013 (that's with 2 years of exp.)

None of those schools will let you study there if you cite high GMAT and TOEFL only; there are multiple other factors they look into before admitting a candidate. Please go through the school's website and through GC forums to get more information.

Top MBA programs rarely admit candiateds w/o work experience. I personally know someone who got admitted to a top program with just one year of work experience but he also did a couple of internships and was involved in a lot of extracuriculars.

GMAT is more of a hurdle, i.e. a too low a score might keep you out but a very high score won't significantly increase your likelihood of admission.

You might want to look at the 2+2 program at HBS (check their website). Except for that I'd recommend that you finish studies work for at least 2 years and apply thereafter. Not only will your chances of admission be higher but once admitted you'll also be able to benefit more from the classes.
