97.Although the coordination of monetary policy can help facilitate the orderly financing of existing imbalances, it is unlikely that its effect on their size is significant in the absence of an appropriate fiscal adjustment.

(A) it is unlikely that its effect on their size is significant
(B) it is unlikely that the size of their effect would be significant
(C) affecting their sizes are not likely to be significant
(D) the significance of their effect on its size is unlikely
(E) its effect on their size is not likely to be significant

Friends, only designing what reference for "its effect" and what is for "their size" costs me more than 2 minutes. Pls give me your expertise! thanks!

E

"its" refers to the coordination of monetary policy
"their" refers to the imbalances

This leaves only A and E as viable answers. E is more precise.

E - it should refer to coordination, their should refer to imbalances.

E for me as well. "its" refers to "policy" and "their" refers to "imbalances"

there are two pronouns in the sentence: "its" and "they". It is clear what these pronouns refer to, as one of them is singular and the other plural, and as the sentence contains only one singular subject and one plural object.

now we have to choose between A and E.In A "it" refers to nothing and these kinds of constructions are almost always wrong on GMAT. With A eliminated, the only plausible option we are left with is "E"
