A and B together can do a piece of work in 72/5 days ; B and C together can do a piece of work in 12 days. After A worked for 8 days, B for 12 days C takes up and finishes it alone in 6 days. In how many days will eac of them do the work, working alone?

A ... 24 days
B ... 36 days
C ... 18 days.

This is simple ..............
Do not frame equations........... try to understant the following.

Given AB .......... 72/5 days ----------(a)
BC .......... 12 days.................(b)

It is given that A worked for 8 days, B worked for 12 days and C worked for 6 days.

I will group this in the following way.

AB worked together for 6 days------(1)
BC worked together for 6 days------(2)(i group this way keeping(a) and(b)inmind)
and A worked for another 2 days.

So work done by AB in 6 days is 6/(72/5)=30/72 = 5/12 from(1) and (a)
Work done by BC in 6 days is 6/12 from (2) and (b)
So totally 11/12 work is done.
Hence remaining 1/12 is done by A in 2 days.

So A can finish the work in 24 days.
From (a) B can finish the work in 36 days.
From (b) C can finish the work in 18 days.

I think this is little bit tough, but try to understand this concept and u will finish problems like these in no time..........
