A and B, two models of air conditioners, each have the capacity of 10, 000 BTU/hour. But they have different wattage, the wattage for A is 1765 and for B is 870 watts. If it costs $70 to operate model A for 1000 hours and if the rate per kilowatt hour is the same for the two models, approximately how much will it cost to operate model B for the same length of time.

This question doesnтАЩt seem difficult. The problem is that I donтАЩt understand the question. Any comments?. IтАЩll provide the answers later.
Thanks

I'd guess roughly about $35.

We don't have to worry about BTU/hr here. Since the operating cost is charged per hour of electricity, we know that wattage can be helpful here.

Ratio: WattageA / WattageB
= 1765 / 870
= 0.5 approximately

Operating Cost of B:
Ratio * operating cost of A
= 0.5 * 70
= $35

Keep in mind though, that the cost is asked for 1000 hrs of operation. If this wasn't the case we would have to find hourly charge by dividing 70 by 1000, which is 7 cents per hour.

You are right. Among choices 30, 35, 40, 60, and 140, the correct answer is 35. :-D
