2. Area of triangle ABC < 1

1) is insufficient because the three point may or may not lie on a line - if forming a triangle, the answer is "no", but if they lie on a line the answer can be "yes"

2) by itself is also insufficient because there can be different shapes of triangles with area 1 leading to either "yes" or "no" answer

Combining 1 & 2 is still insifficient because of the explanation in 1). If area of triangle in 2) is 0 then the points are on one line.
