A bill for a national "no speed limit day" was passed in the parliament with 66.67% of the members voting for it which was 18 more than the numbers who opposed the bill. If all the members were present and none anstained from voting, how many members voted for the bill?

a. 36
b. 54
c. 72
d. 180

***Just checking my answer on this one cuz the official answer disagrees.

sunniboy is it 36. 66.67% voted and 33.33% opposed so the difference of 33.33% is the 18 votes so 66.67% = 36 who voted

I get 54

X=# of voters

0.3333*X=X/3 voted against
0.6667*X=2X/3 voted in favor

then 2X/3=X/3+18 => 2X=X+54 => X=54

You are right it is 36. And the official answer is also 36. I made the same mistake as martin. I did not read the question properly.

Then the answer is X*2/3=54*2/3=36
