heading into the test, I was confident in my verbal and worried about quant.

well I scored a 48 in quant, i was testing around 46-47, so this was great

but i dropped the bomb on verbal. was test around 40. and ended up with a 28

640 overall

idk what happened. typically i miss one or two combined between reading and reasoning, and miss half of the sentence correction

maybe i missed 3 or 4 between reading and reasoning, i must has really done poorly on sentence correction

you know, a lot of people did this month. There was a case of a person going down from 39 to 29!

I wonder if this is related and something is off this month?

I didnt realize your raw score could fluctuate 10 points from test to test, especially when your studying... Perhaps you just had an unlucky day? Maybe all the questions you guessed on you got wrong? Maybe the RC passages were absolute gibberish as opposed to almost discernible gibberish.

Uggh...so not happy to hear this! I have my test this weekend. :no

Overperformer - Sorry to hear that! I am sure in your case a retake would get your score back at the right level. Hope you don't get disheartened yet!

I took the test last year and received a 28 verbal after scoring in the 40s in practice tests. I took a year off from gmat and studied or one week sc went in and got a 41. Yes - a 28-41 verbal jump with no prep. I was nervous the first test and by the 41 verbal I was relaxing and not thinking about outcome. It's all about taking the test the same way you take your practice ones. Sit back, relax, you can always take it again..

I took the GMAT 4 days after you did and also scored 48/28 but my overall was 620. My mock scores in verbal were consistently above 40 (got 760 on GMATPREP.) I am really disapppointed and feel very stupid
