A builder decided to build a farmhouse in 40 days. He employed 100 men in the begining and 100 more after 35 days and completed the construction in stipulated time. If he had not employed the additional men, how many days behind schedule would it have been finished?

Anand and I came up with this answer.

Planned work:
100 workers can do the work in 40 days = 4000 ManDays
Actural schedule
100 workers working 35 days and 200 workers working 5 more days
= 4500 man days.

Thus, it takes additional 5 days [ = (4500 - 4000)/100] to finish the
work if only 100 workers worked.

Assuming workers all work at the same rate.
X = work done by 100 worker in 1 day
Then 35X + 5*2X = 45X
45X - 40X (time it would have taken using 100 workers) = 5 days

There is a big assumption here. The Rate is same for the additioanl workers as the original ones. Is it safe to assume it.
