B for me.

If x is the total capacity of the tank, then
462/x - 336/x = 6
x = 21 gallons.

miles per gallon in city = 336 / 21 = 16

Helpful answer. I just looked at the answer choices since it is clear that 336 had to be divisible by the answer. Only one that works is B, 16. (clearly c and e can be eliminated right away)

Thanks guys..
I too got it... Without looking at your solutions.. I found that I can solve most of maths problems when focused and calm. and that is what is very difficult to be when the clock is ticking..

Here is how I solved :

Let the miles/gallon in city = y
Let the miles/gallon on highway = y+6
Gallons of gasoline when fulltank = x

On highway, it Miles/gallon is :

462 / x = y+6
(462 / x ) - 6 = y ------- 1

In City,

336 /x = y -----------2

336 /x = (462 / x ) - 6

Solving above equation : x = 21.

Substituting in 2, y = 16.

Hence B
