A car travelled 462 miles per tankful of gasoline on the highway and 336 miles per tankful of gasoline in the city. If the car travelled 6 fewer miles per gallon in the city than on the highway how many miles per gallon did the car travel in teh city?

x : miles/gallon in city
462x/336=x+6
<-> (462-336)x/336 = 6
x=6*336/126 =16

mpg(city) = mpg(highway) - 6

mpg(city) = 336/c

mpg(highway) = 462/c where c=tank capacity

6c = 126 --> c=21

therefore, 336/21 = 16

x = total gallons in one tank of gas
336/x - 6 = 462/x
x = 21
For City, you have mile/gallon = 336/21 = 16
