In order to maximize the number of guests, we need to minimze the contribution.

So assume everyone contributed $2....$2*150 = $300$3*1 = $3 GMAT Club Legend Joined: 07 Jul 2004 Posts: 5062 Location: Singapore Followers: 30 Kudos [?]: 358 [0], given: 0 ### Show Tags 21 Nov 2005, 21:31 Greatest number is when every contributes the least amount. For this to happen, someone has to contribute 3 dollars, leaving 300 to be split among 150 members. So total # = 151 members. looking to multiply 2 * a number to equal 303. 303 is not divisible so we go down 1 because we want the minimum contribution per person of 2 dollars. someone will end up doanting 3 dollars.
