A - Sentence is good at it is. All modifiers are at their best places.

1. He advocated what?? So we require "that".

2. "Africa" and "the land" should be together.

3. Just remove "to him" and see that sentence makes perfect sense.

I think A it is. Except that the word in between "to him"

Doesn;t it not need according to him? Is the sub clause "to him" right as it is? That was confusing..

But I guess rest all are worst than this.

This is one of those comma pattern SCs testing our knowledge punctuation.

(A) reads fine.

A for me..

(A) that some Blacks return to Africa, the land that, to him, symbolized the possibility of freedom
CORRECT
(B) that some Blacks return to the African land symbolizing the possibility of freedom to him
Here it looks like the return symbolizes the freedom and not land
(C) that some Blacks return to Africa which was the land which symbolized the possibility of freedom to him
2 which...sounds awkward and moreover the 2nd which "land" symbolizes the freedom and not "Africa"
(D) some Black’s returning to Africa which was the land that to him symbolized the possibility of freedom
We need "that" to start the sentence
(E) some Black’s return to the land symbolizing the possibility of freedom to him, Africa
We need "that" to start the sentence
