A drug that is highly effective in treating many types of infection can, at present, be obtained only from the bark of the Ibora, a tree that is quite rare in the wild. It takes the bark of 5000 trees to make one kilogram of the drug. It follows, therefore, that continued production of the drug must inevitably lead the Ibora's extinction.
Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument above?

(A)The Ibora can be propagated from cuttings and grown under cultivation.
(B)The Ibora generally grows in largely inaccessible places.

The answer is A, but I think B is also reasonable, why not B?

well, many species thrive in inaccessible areas, yet are driven to extinction by other interests. So, you are assuming the contrary to the latter.

The question is that if the Ibora is in largely inaccessible places, it
won't be taken the bark. Therefore, it won't become extinctive, right ?

If I can add my two cents....

I think the key thing here is the conclusion which says that contined production of the drug will lead to the extinction of the ibora.....

if we can find a way to disprove this...ie by saying there are others ways to produced or keep the ibora from extinction, then we have weakened it..and so A is correct for that..

here i think the concept of Scope (explained in PR) will help

see the choice: B

you are assuming that if "The Ibora generally grows in largely inaccessible places."

if the Ibora is in largely inaccessible places, it won't be taken the bark. Therefore, it won't become extinctive, right ? .. but this is never stated in the CR. so this choice are clearly out of scope for this CR.

but the choice A disproves the assumption that was taken by conclusion. so the choice A is correct one.

Thanks
