A is wrong my friend.

atleast 2 problems with A

First,

1st You can not claim from a one page writing sample. You can assess a one page writing sample to claim something...

2nd THAT is too far from claims to which it should modify.

B has the same problem.

C is claiming the ability...

E is weird as you can easily see

A could be re-written as

A firm that specializes in the analysis of handwriting claims that it can assess from a one-page writing sample more than three hundred personality traits, including enthusiasm, imagination, and ambition.

I am between C and D.
I chose D coz able to assess seems to be more idiomatic than the ability of assessing

"claim to" is idiomatic
So the only choice should be D

I think it is D. Isthe OA D. Claim to is idiomatic and sentence has appropriate placing of commas.

My choice is D [#permalink] New post 26 Aug 2005, 10:29
D should be the answer. Reasons are :

A and B refer to a pronoun 'it' which is ambigious. Hence, I did not consider them.

So, C, D and E are left behind. E cannot be the answer 'coz the usage 'being' is wrong.

Between C and D, D sounded more logical to me.

Hence, I selected D.

D is the best answer.

A and B sound like the firm's claim is written on a one-page writing sample.

"The ability of assessing" in C is awakard.

"...claims being able to assess" in E is awakard.

A and B are out - 'from' makes the one-page writing sample sound like a place where the firm makes its claim from
C and E are plain awkward
D is the best choice.

(A) sounds like the claim what is there in that 'one page'
(B) same as above and also undiomatic use 'in assessing'
(C) 'the ability of assessing' reads bad
(D) Best - 'Firm claims to be able to assess'
(E) awkward
