114. A Food and Drug Administration rule implemented in December 2000 mandates that any new drug that they intend to be used both by adults and children must undergo pediatric study and that its manufactures list children’s doses on the label.

A. drug that they intend to be used both by adults and children must
B. drug whose intended use is for adults and children as well
C. drug intended for use by both adults and children
D. drug, if they intend that it be used by adults and also children, must
E. drug, if intended for use both by adults and children, must

What's wrong woth b? is it too wordy?

In c, can i use "intend' with a preposition "for"? Shouldn't it be intended to be used?

Mandate is "Bossy word" so C is only choice, You can not use must, should, may when there is Bossy word, neither "to"

Mandate is the verb used in the subjunctive mood or called bossy verb. Therefore, use "must" is redundant. Eliminate choice A, D, and E. Choice B is also redundant with "and" along with "as well"

hi all :) this is an old question.

i get the bossy word part, i wanna ask is the "if" part grammatically right?

is the bossy word the only reason to rule out E?

thanks!

Nope, E is also not parallel

drug, if intended for use both by adults and children, must

"both by adults and children" is not parallel. The correct version would be "both by adults and by children"
For more about parallelism refer here:

Hope it helps
