19. A greater number of newspapers are sold in Town S than in Town T. Therefore, the citizens of Town S are better informed about major world events than are the citizens of Town T.
Each of the following, if true, weakens the conclusion above EXCEPT:
(A) Town S has a larger population than Town T.
(B) Most citizens of Town T work in Town S and buy their newspapers there.
(C) The average citizen of Town S spends less time reading newspapers than does the average citizen of Town T.
(D) A weekly newspaper restricted to the coverage of local events is published in Town S.
(E) The average newsstand price of newspapers sold in Town S is lower than the average price of newspapers sold in Town T.

B
Authors assumption is that all news papers sold in town S are bought by residents of town S only, which is undermined by B. So weakens the conclusion

look for something that strenghtens the argument or leaves the argument alone.
A is the only one.

A weakens the conclusion.
The argument says that because S sells more newspaper than T, thus people of S are better informed than T.
A says that u cannot conclude this because higher selling is due to large population of S than T.

E actually strengthens the argument. The price is cheaper, therefore more people in S than people in T buy newspapers. And they are more informed respectively. Of course E is not that perfectly convincing, but other choice definitely weaken the argument.

Guys can anyone give a decent reason why D is not right. How does it matter if a local newspaper does anything on the face of this earth. It neither strengthens anything nor weakens. And folks I checked the answer in GMAT plus notes and its D. Hope it helps.

ngulati:
But town S newspaper covers local events only... The argument says about major WORLD events. Town S citizens simply have no idea of major world events happening. D directly weakens the argument.

Hey guys,
This is one of the questions in OG and the answer is E. The reason that D is wrong is that it is a weekly newspaper restricted to the coverage of local events [/b][/u] and does not inform people about major world events as the arguments says.
