A group of X families, each with Y members are to be lined up in a single row for a photo. How many ways can the people be arranged if each family member must be kept together?

X families can be lined up in X! ways.
within each family, Y members can be rearranged in Y! ways
therefore for X families members can be arranged in Y!^x ways

total arrangements: X! * Y!^X
