A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn were published, reveals that Twain provided financial assistance to one of the first Black students at Yale Law School.
(A) A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn were published,
(B) A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year of publication as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,
(C) A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published,
(D) Mark Twain wrote a letter in the same year as he published The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn that
(E) Mark Twain wrote a letter in the same year of publication as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn that
This SC was much analysed in this forum, still I have a question about it.
Everyone worried about the OA C and often the choice made was B. I did the same mistake. I read different explanations, also the OE but none mention that "as" can be only used with a clause(verb+noun).
in B, "as" doesn't introduce a clause, hence it should be enough for not choosing it.
Am I wrong? Or is there any example where as can be used with just a noun.
Thanks!

I would say the correct choice is C.
B is a bit awkward. As is used to compare "year of publication" and "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". That seems a bit wrong.
C is correct as the word "that" which is restrictive refers to "year" and adds the information "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published" to the word "year". This is correct.

B is clearly wrong
you compare "year of publication" with "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" . Does it make sense?

I think you are right. C makes more sense, as it comepares like things, written and published.
Lets look at another possibility, what if we take A but instead of were replace it with was:
"A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published"
Do you guys think this would be a better sentence? I am still not comfortable with when to use that and when to use as.

Thanks for all your anwers, but actually I wondered if grammatically it is correct to use AS as it is in (b).
Because I found somewhere that AS can only be used with a clause(verb-subjet). If that 's the case, there shouldnt be any discussion between B and C, because B would be for this reason immediately eliminated.
Since nobody analysed this AS I 've just done, I thought my analysis may be false or too simple and was looking for someone's explanation.
If someone has an idea?

That is not coorrect cuz "as" is used to compare clauses (subject+verb), which B lacks. if B were "A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year of publication as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published, it would be ok.
(D) is wrong comparision.
only C makes correct comparision.
