Don't you think that "Same... as" in "B" is much better idiomaticall as compared with "same...that" in "C"?

No, I don't. Same ... that is perfectly correct in this context.
But put it aside for a minute. Take a closer look at what exactly (B) is
trying to say.

... written in the same year of publication as the The Adventures ...

So both were written in the same year of publication. Publication of what exactly? Do you see any sense here? I do not.

I think I get you. So "B" would have been correct if the sentence had been... (adding 'that of')

A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year of publication as that of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Please tell me whether my understanding is correct.

So you still insist that it was written in the year of publication. What exactly does it mean? Is it its own year of publication or may be some years are "years of publication" while some are not.

In any case, don't you think that "...written in the year of publication of..." would be much more sensible in this context?

But wouldn't "A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year of publication as that of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" mean the same as "C"?

I understand the error in "B" but I am trying to figure out how exactly could I rephrase "B" to mean the same as "C".

No, not at all. Both are written in the same year, not in the same year of publication. So if you want rephrase it, do it as follows:

... written in the same year as that of publication of The Adventures ...

However C is still much more concise than that.

One more thing, in A and B you are trying to do comparision which is not correct in this context.

C is the best choice. we need 'that' to modify 'year' before proceeding to 'the adventures of huckleberry finn'
