(A) "gradual" (adjective) and "created a cataclysm" (verb form) are not parallel

(B) "if" is wrong. No parallelism as in A

(C) "about" is unnecessary

(D) I think this is the correct answer. Parallelism issue is resolved.

(E) No parallelism. "It" is unnecessary.

agree with D being the correct answer.

The error is of parallelism and d resolves it neatly.

D seems to solve the parallelism problem between gradual and Cataclysmic.

(C) is wrong because it uses incorrect idiom "debate about" instead "debate over"
