I think I would go with E.
Because if you negate E, then there is no way that the company is going to make profits. But I iniitially inclined towards B as well. But ruled it out.

A mail order company recently had a big jump in clothing sales after hiring a copywriter and a graphic artist to give its clothing catalog a magazinelike format designed to appeal to a more upscale clientele. The company is now planning to launch a housewares catalog using the same concept.
The company’s plan assumes that
I'd go with (B) an upscale clientele would be interested in a housewares catalog.
The whole point of the copy writer and graphic artist is that they make the catalog magazine-like. More magazine-like = more sales from upscale clientele. Therefore launching a magazine-like housewares catalog assumes that an upscale clientele would be interested in a housewares catalog.
If you reverse the answer- eg an upscale clientele would NOT be interested in a housewares catalog- then the company's assumption makes no sense.

I think it is B. Upscale cliente to me are people with a lot of money to spend and if you make things "flashy" they probably will be more interested which explains the big jump. Now the company is using the same concept which is to improve the format of its housewares catalog - it is expecting similar results(which is upscale cliente buying ) since it worked for the clothing magazine.

I go with B.
E is out because those customers are attracted by the old clothing catalogue.

B is my pick
The whole idea of going with the new format is that the company hopes that it will appeal to the upscale clientele, which can translate to higher sales

I ruled out E because the fact that there was a big jump in sales is proof that the new catalog worked. Even if they did lose sales from the old catalog customers, why would they give a hoot. As long as they are making more money from the upscale people. The goal is clearly stated to have a jump in sales, not keeping old customers on the mailing list. The assumptions here is that the plan will also work for houseware. B is the only one that gives that. skg, can you please confirm the OA?

SO, THIS MUST THE OPTION. (C) the same copywriter and graphic artist could be employed for both the clothing and housewares catalogs ---> who said this company can not hire others (D) a magazinelike format requires a copywriter and a graphic artist ---> already told that they are required (E) customers to whom the old clothing catalog appealed would continue to make purchases from catalogs with the new format ---> comapny can not rely on existing customers

Argument: Company that sells houswares tries to reach out to upper scale clients with the new catalog design just like it did with clothing. Bewteen B and E. Let's try to neglect each (B) an upscale clientele be interested in a housewares catalog. Neglecting this, upscale customers are not interested in housewares catalogs. Why to send catalogs to people who won't read them.(E) customers to whom the old clothing catalog appealed would continue to make purchases from catalogs with the new format Neglect it. Newly designed clothing catalogs not working does not mean that newly designed housewares catalogs won't work either.
