B. Black Americans—including Native Son by Richard Wright and Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

E. a Black American—the others being Richard Wright’s Native Son and Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man

guys, i have a question here. in "Jean Toomer’s Cane has been called one of the three best novels ever written by Black Americans", what does "written by" refers to? is it three novels or Jean Toomer’s Cane? if it means three best novels, then it sjould be B. how does the sentence makes sense to say"one of the three best novels by a black american". three novels should be written by various black americans. pls clearify................thanx............

HIMALAYA,

I 'll try to give it a shot, others please correct me if I am wrong.

by black americans ---> should be used when comparing books by multiple authors.

Since here all three books are by a single author,
by a black american --> stresses the individual effort.

My choice is B.

I eliminate choices with "being" and between B and C chose like this: B compares novels, while C compares novels and authors (apples and oranges).
So I stayed with B.

if so, then how can we say "the others being Richard Wright’s Native Son and Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man"?

My Answer is B.

Sentence implies novels are written by three individuals and not by single person.

Subject is 'novels' and not authors.

Only B is appropriate.
