A new drug has been formulated which is intended to inhibit ulcer formation by absorbing excess stomach acid. However, some researchers predict that the resulting reduced levels of stomach acid will interfere with the stomach’s ability to break down food, and the body will compensate by producing more stomach acid.

Which of the following, if true, would most strongly support the author’s argument?

The new drug will reduce stomach acid below levels necessary to break food down

Some drugs have been effective in treating ulcers by controlling stomach acid levels

Increased stomach acid production can be attributed to a number of factors

A reduction in stomach acid levels is not the most effective way to treat ulcers.

The long-term effects of agents that absorb stomach acid have not been fully established

A it is because it reaffirms the author’s argument.

B is wrong because it’s off topic.
C is also off topic and too broad.
D is just another observation and doesn’t support the author’s argument in anyway.
E is off topic too.

Sure it is A.
Can somebody tell, will such kind of questions appear on real test?
I mean, isn't it too easy for GMAT?

Hi Dilshod,
Nothing is too easy, there is a trap in each question, if you cannot recongnize that or you got past that, good for you, but there is always some target test take out there who will over analyze things and complicate things particularly when adrenaline level shoots up in exam scenario..

Honestly , I don't understand what the author is trying to say here .

Is he saying that new drug will be effective in curing ulcer.

if so Answer would be "C"
or
Is he with the reasoning of researchers.

The guy says that the new drug will reduce tendencies of ulcer by absorbing stomach acid. Stomach acid, researchers say, will not be too good for the body b/c it will limit the ability to break down food, and since the body will react to this by producing new acid, then the drug may just be usless or even worsen the situation.

To strenghten this, we need to be sure that the drug actually does what it does (inhibit ulcer by absorbing stomach acid). (A) now helps us by telling us that the drug actually does what it is meant to do. i don't know how else to explain, pardon me.
