A question for indians... [#permalink]
15 Aug 2007, 11:34
Why do Indians list jobs with the word India in the company name?
For instance, instead of saying "I worked for Kodak", every single Indian authored essay I read says, "I worked for Kodak India"...
I'm just curious... Do people really refer to the firms as "Kodak India" or is this just a cultural difference? For instance, no one in the US would ever say "I work for McKinsey USA" ....
Someone fill me in.

Well a lot of such big firms actually have the "India" in the names of their indian divisions. Continuing your example of Kodak, it appears that their indian division is officially called "Kodak India Private Ltd.".
This can not be the only answer to your question, though.

Go figure, I just thought it was some kind of cultural quirk.

I am not doing that. I work for HP and I am not writing that " I work for HP INDIA"

I also want to play with this off-topic game. pmenon, don't forget to carry a lot of gifts with you. You have missed almost 259,260,000 births in India in the past 10 years

US-based MNCs have regional names for regional divions. Ibankers I know do the same thing, even though most are caucasian or Asian (non-Indian). The ones who get jobs in NY will simply state Goldman/Morgan/Lehman, whereas Asia-based candidates state Goldman Beijing, JP Tokyo, Morgan Hong Kong, etc...

Hi,
Most of the major US companies opened separate Indian wings. Such as IBM has named its indian wing as IBM India. They report their result differently than the parent company.
