In (C) - 'there is' and 'as many as' stands out against option (A) and (B)
In (E) - 'now has' and 'as many as' is bettter than option (D)
Now which is the better choice.. I will go for 'C'

1st split: as X as. only C and E left. everything else does not complete the idiom with the scond as.
Btwn C and E. I go for C, b/c four times as many as seems to illogically refer to one computer in E. C makes it clearer I think. I dunno if this is the correct reasoning though.

OA-C
I was chosing between C and E b/c of "as many as" is the corret usage. However I still dont get why the answer is C rather than E. Is it because C is more clear? Or there is another grammer mistake in it.

No increased to four fold..one computer for every 32 pupils E -- meaning --> 32 Pupils now has one computer, four times as many as they were.. previously 8 pupiles have one computere. Here four times refer to Pupils Number which changes the original meaning correct me I am wrong

C for me.
Comes down to C Vs E. The comparison in E is not clear and seems to be comparing pupils.

C is the answer since 4 times should refer to the computer - for E it refers to pupils.

Exactly the same Question I have, why "there were", why not "there was" ?
One more Question I have is , what is the role of construction "four times as many as there were four years ago" ? It seems clause to me, but how it can attach with another clause with comma only ?
Thanks in advance, Tashu

Why Option E is incorrect. when 4 times as many as is near microcomputer. How ill we come to know that it is not modifying the previous noun but the noun next to previous noun. Pls Clarify. thanks
