A recent newspaper feature story listed several factors as 'predictors' of the likelihood of premature death. Two of these factors were a sedentary lifestyle without regular physical exercise, and sleeping more than 12 hours daily.

If a person, who is trying to avoid premature death, were to respond to this news by both joining an exercise club and buying an alarm clock, that person would probably be:

A) mistaking an explanation for an argument.

B) mistaking an argument for an explanation.

C) mistaking a premise for a conclusion.

D) mistaking a cause for an indicator.

E) mistaking an indicator for a cause.

please explain

I chose E. The sedentary lifestyle itself and long hours might not by itself cause the premature death but the effects of these two things might cause the death..dont know if this reasining is ok. :(

Straight E.

These two are indicators of likelihood of premature death and are not the cause of premature death.

It`s (E), but might also add that not getting those 7 hours of sleep every night is also conducive to premature aging.

E seems to be the best.

The person clearly thinks that sedantary lifestly and sleeping more than 12 hrs will cause premature death.

Yup go with E....

Could it not be the premise leading to a conclusion... as it is a finding that the user is taking as the final word...

:no

It is clearly written: "likelihood". So it is cause effect relationship not a premise conclusion.
