A running track is 400 meters long. Two runners start out running a 5000 meter race at the same time and the slower runner takes 5 min/km. If each runner runs a steady pace, the pace the faster runner needs to pass the slower runner twice is closest to:
a) 4.0 min/km
b) 4.2 min/km
c) 4.3 min/km
d) 4.4 min/km
e) 4.5 min/km

To pass him exactly twice faster runner should have 2 lap lead

so while faster runs 5000 slower should run 4200 to get 2 lap lead


time taken by slower to run 4200 = 4200*5/1000= 21 min

faster wunner should run 5000 m in 21 min
1000m in 21*1000/5000==4.2
