(5*0.8+2.4*x)/(5+x)=1.4

x=3

final ratio would be = 1.4-0.8 : 2.4-1.4 = 5:3

I have a question as to why is there a "5 + x" in the denominator ..I understand everything else.

Pharm "5+x" is because this is based on Weighted average concept.

Total / Sum = Average
or
Total cost / Total weight = Average Cost

Here Total weight = (Weight * Cost ) + (Weight * Cost)
Total weight = sum of weights
Which results in average cost
