33) C is correct according to me.
D is wrong because The Madagascar periwinkle is not a derivative
but derivative of The Madagascar periwinkle is cultivated otherwise that crop cultivated will be called The Madagascar periwinkle

My choice, 31 (D), 33(C).

31) (B), (C), (E) makes sentence awkward by implying mass and not the star passed. (A), also is unclear "........ it passes through a red giant stage" modified formation of black hole, rather than modifying star.

33) As per the sentence it has to be the substance that should be cultivated and not the periwinkle.
