A thin piece of wire is 40 meters long and is cut into 2 pieces. One piece is used to form a circle with a radius of r, the other is used to form a square. No wire is left over. Which of the following represents the total area of both?

a. (pie*r)^2
b. (pie*r)^2 + 10
c. (pie*r)^2 + 1/4(pie^2*r^2)
d. (pie*r)^2 + (40 - 2*pie*r)^2
e. (pie*r)^2 + (10 - 1/2*pie*r)^2

Perimeter of circle + Perimeter of square = 40
If a is side of square,

2*pi*r + 4a = 40

a = 10-(pi*r)/2

Area = Area of circle + Area of square

= pi*r^2 + [10-(pi*r)/2]^2

Ans = E
