A town T has 20,000 residents, 60 percent of whom are female. what percent of the residents were born in town T?
(1) The number of female residents who were born in Town T is twice the number of male residents who were not born in town T

(2) The number of female residents who were not born in Town T is twice the number of female residents who were born in town T.

Please explain, I dont agree with the OA.

Total # = 20,000
# of Women = 0.6*20000 = 12000

(1) W(BT) = 2 M(NBT)
BT= Born in town T
NBT= not Born in town T
M= Men
W= Women

Insuff BCE

(2) W(NBT) = 2 W(BT)
where W(NBT) = Women not born in Town T
W(BT) = Women born in Town T

Hence W(BT) + W(NBT) = 12000
3W(BT) = 12000
W(BT) = 4000
Hence W(NBT) =8000

Dont know about Men Born/Not Born Insuff

CE
(1)&(2)
we can find M(NBT) = W(BT)/2
Hence M(NBT) = 4000/2 = 2000
Hence M(BT) = 8000 -2000 = 6000 But this would be assuming there are no children who are also part of the group.

The Qstem doesnot say that Men & women are the only residents of Town T. There could be children?

I' m not assuming, I'm just using the info given.

A man and a boy are both male.

Likewise,

A woman and a girl are both female.

Heman, you are doing what I did last year, overanalyzing the problems. Trust me, it only results in diminishing returns...

C .... and in problems like these numbers like 20000 only confuses... just pick 100 and life becomes much easier..
