the maximum three digit number can be 97+86=183 => A is 1 and the number is 111
we have 1B+CD=111 B can't be 0 or 1

B=3 => 98
B=4 => 97
....
B=9 => 92

in any case C is 9

This is a tough question, but I think the answer is 9. My reasoning is as follows

AB, CD are two 2 digit numbers, and AAA is a 3 digit number, so adding two 2 digit numbers can only give you AAA = 111 because A, B, C, D are to be distinct.
From this, we know that A = 1 so AB = 1B where B could be 0,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9.
In any case, we wont worry about B at this stage. Now thinking logically, the only way we can get a result of 111 (AAA) is by adding a number in the nineties with a number in the tens, therefore, C = 9.
For example, A = 1, B = 7, D = 4, C= 9
therefore, AB + CD = 17(AB)+94(CD) = 111 (AAA)

Sergey and Saurster..you guys seem to be doing too good!!! Are you guys already done with GMAT or yet to appear for it? Seems you are in 780+ league!
ANy suggestions on how to improve CR and RC. THough I assume, CR should be natural!

To be honest I'm a college student who is graduating in 3 semesters. I started studying for GMAT about a 1.5 months ago. When I took my first diagnostics test (OG 11) I got 2 out 24 questions correct. Since then I've been studying every day (2-4hours a day) and my math improved a lot. I'm taking GMAT in 2-3 months. English is my second language so I'll need more time preparing for my Verbal. I haven't started studying for my Verbal yet, so I can't really give you any advice I have a lot of prep material and posted it for you guys at http://www.gmatclub.com/phpbb/viewtopic ... 7&start=20
There are a lot of good notes posted by people who scored high. I'd recommend to read those notes, there are some good suggestion on how to improve your RC and CR.
