This may be an easy/stupid question, but since I can't post new topics on the other easy maths thread I have to post it here.

If x=-lxl, then which one of the following statements could be true?

I.x=0
II.x<0
III. x>0

a. none
b. I only
c. III only
d. I and II
e. II and III

for me (D).

Since x=-lxl and because |x| >= 0, thus -|x| = x <= 0.

This inequality is represented by (I) & (II).

I see x can be -ve or even (possibly) = 0 but can not be> 0.

I agree with Fig's reasoning, and I got D as well. 0 = -[0], so that should be fine. X > 0 would never work, as you can see by testing numbers. And X<0 makes sense from the absolute value breakdown I found on the GMAT Club's GMAT Math: Absolute Values. I'd link, but I'm too young by GMAT Club post count. I really like the absolute value info posted on GMAT Club, it's an easy to digest refresher on absolute values.
