Will there not be a confusng antecedent for 'it' in OptionE.

It can refer either to: 'Living and owning a house' or to the 'goal' ... both change meaning.

Options:A, b ,c and d are definitely wrong, but option E does not seem right.
Please advise.

E it is.

(E) as it [goal] was of earlier generations
