D changes the meaning . It makes the event certain . We should not pick any answer which changes the meaning of the stem.

But how do you know which is the right meaning? Sometimes the only correct choice gramatically changes the meaning.

The number of ......... will always take a singular verb.

Hence (A) will be the only possible correct answer !! :P

As per the analysis, car sales are likely to increase.
As per the analysis, car sales will increase.

Why is the 2nd sentence wrong? I agree "will" indicates certainty & future is uncertain. But we are saying as per the analysis, it will increase. For eg. As per the weather reports, it will rain tomorrow. It may or may not. But the weather reports are saying that "it will rain". Its just a prediction. But the prediction is certain. Its happening is not certain obviously. We are saying "in the context of analysis" , so how is D wrong? Kindly explain.

Hello DeepanshuGupta,

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your query, consider these two sentences:

1. "I predict it will rain today."
2. "I predict it might rain today."

Sentence 1 conveys that I believe it will definitely rain today, in other words, my prediction is that there is a 100% chance of rain.

Sentence 2 conveys that I believe it is possible that it will rain today, in other words, my prediction is that there is a greater than 0% but less than 100% chance of rain.

We hope this helps.
All the best!

Hi, Thanks for answering.
So you are saying, even if we say as per the study, we cant use will? If yes, then we have heard the sentence, according to weather reports, it will rain tomorrow. so is that wrong?
