I've heard about Nicotine patch but never knew it releases nicotine into body. May be I'm ignorant; I looked up now on Wikipedia

Now that patch is another way to give nicotine to body the study is jeopardized

go with A, earlier i was leaning towards B

I will change my answer to A. Though B is tempting, it is meant to trick us. Just because some of the participants went to restaurants that allow smoking does not mean that those restaurants did indeed always have diners who smoked. In anycase we cannot be certain that the passive smoking experienced there was enough to neutralize the effects of quitting smoking.
