a) the ailing mobster came to take refuge in Corleone, a town famous because of “The Godfather” and near to those he most trusted
the way this sentence is written is ambiguous. Last sentence near to those he most trusted could refer to his friends or to towns he most trust.

b) famous because of “The Godfather,” the ailing mobster came to take refuge in Corleone, a town near to those he most trusted
this changes the mening of the sentense. It implies the mobster is famous because of the Godfather

c) the ailing mobster, famous because of “The Godfather,” came to take refuge in Corleone, a town near to those he most trusted
same as b

d) near to those he most trusted, the ailing mobster came to take refuge in Corleone, a town famous because of “The Godfather”
same as b, c, except now with near to those he most trusted

e) Corleone, famous because of “The Godfather,” was the town that the ailing mobster came to take refuge in because it was near to those he most trusted
Correct. Each modifying phrase is where it needs to be.

I was down to A, E but I guess chose the wrong one. I don't see anything that would make E wrong, though. Anyone?

Its indeed A..

Clearly B, C, and D, are wrong, so eliminate them

between A and E.... choose A

E- it says "it was near to those he most trusted- who is he referred to? - The god father or ailing mobster.

Besides, this sentence give stress to Corleone instead of ailing mobster, who is the subject of discussion.

I think in 'E' - 2 or more dependent clauses are connected with one another without a 'connecting conjunction'

The issue of 'he' faraway far from its original noun or pronoun is there in all answer choice and I think it is valid.
