I have a question on how to list activities upon graduation. As you all know, there's usually a section for you to list your activities after graduation. They're usually fill in the box types i.e. List organization, no of people in organization, hours spent per week, position etc.
That's all fine and dandy if you're the program coordinator at YMCA since 5/1/2009 to present but what do you do for other less structured activities? Basically my question is how do I prove I haven't been sitting around doing nothing given the structure of the application? Should less structured activities just be mentioned in the extra information essay?
For example, once I graduated I started studying for my engineering licensing exam (which I passed), traveled overseas, then started on my b-school applications. On top of that, I have a friend who is still in college and I tutor her for free several times a week. I also started learning to play softball. I signed up to tutor high school kids but that won't start till October. Can I list that anyhow?
Since no one has replied, let me take a crack at it. I personally would make a list of most memorable, or unique, or community oriented activities and then arrange it in some sort of order. Some schools will allow you mention all of your activities (IE Booth) and some will allow you to listed them within 400 words (IE Columbia). So it's gonna depend on the school how detailed you can go.
As for the list you've given, I would imagine you would list things that are not self serving or required for work. EIT/FE is basicly like CPA exam, it probably fits better on your resume. The High school tutoring thing wouldn't be the best choice either since duration is also important. If you were to tutor high school students but list that you've only been tutoring for 3 weeks that would probably do very little for your application.
