Hi
I would like to have a feedback about my admission chances for the following MBA programs: LBS, Oxford, and INSEAD. I am 29, from Lebanon (MiddleEast).
Academically speaking, I have a B.Eng in Computer and Communications from the American Uni. of Beirut, one of the most prestigious universities in the middleEast. My average is 74/100, slightly lower than 3.0 on the American scale. In addition, I have a M.Sc in Communications Engineering from the Technical Uni of Munich in Germany with an average of 2.5/5.0, which is equivalent to a good honours on the German Scale.
As per my professional experience, I have around 8 years of International experience between the Gulf, and Europe; in addition, I have demonstrated managerial capacity as early as I was 24 years old.
I have an outstanding record of extra-curricular activities, leadership and community involvement.
As per the GMAT, I took it for the 1st time on December 6th, 2004. And, my score was:
Quant: 47 (81%)
Verbal: 31 (62%)
Overall: 640 (80%).. Actually, I didn't have time to properly prepare for GMAT.
I am aiming to meet January deadlines, so your prompt response will be of a high benefit.
Thank you very much.

LBS and Insead are probably somewhat of a stretch for you, particularly if your grades really are the equivalent of somewhat less that a 3.0. I suspect that the 74 is higher than a 3.0 and encourage you to report it as a 74 and not translate it, if at all possible. The schools know how to interpret a score from a well-known school. You have a competitive profile for Oxford.
BTW, the transcripts for the chat for these 3 schools should be posted by the end of the weekend. They may help you with your essays.
Good luck!

Hello Linda
Thank you for your e-mail. As per my GPA, may I know how beneficial my good-honors Master's degree from Germany will be?. In addition, I spent one-year, Sophomore class, at the Lebanese American University, in which I got a cumulative GPA of 3.6 Should I mention this year in my application ?
In order to strengthen my admission chances at LBS and INSEAD, what measures should I take? The fact is that I am losing time especially regarding LBS second-round deadline, and I will not be able to sit for a GMAT before that date.
Thank you very much.

Nantar,
I can't quantify how much the master's degree will help, but it certainly will do so, as well the year at the Lebanese American University. If the transcript from that year is part of your overall transcript, then you don't need to mention it separately. If it is not shown separately, then you may want to include that fact, but you also have to have a good place to include that tidbit.
To improve your chances, improve your GMAT, especially the verbal score.
Good luck!

The experience at the Lebanese American University is valuable in the sense that it provides further context to your undergrad record. In addition, the German degree helps demonstrate that you can succeed in a a variety of academic/linguistic environments.
