Admission Chances at Tuck [#permalink] New post 15 Aug 2005, 00:08
Hi Linda,

Thanks to evaluate my profile and say if I'll be competitive at Tuck (applying for fall '06 admissions)

Profile
-------

23 yr old, Indian. Completed Bachelors degree in Singapore. Computer Engineering. Passed with second lower classification (British styled university). GPA - 2.8 ~ 3.0(self-calculated)

Currently doing part-time masters in statistics - all A's thus far. Completing by Apr '06.

GMAT - 750 (51q, 40v)

Current work ex. (1.5 yrs, will be 2.5 when I marticulate). Working in singapore in a semi-conductor manufacturing plant as fabs automation engineer.

Have served as publications officer of a club while at university. Currently a part of nature conservation team at my company. Organize bi-weekly community activities geared towards nature preservation.

Post-MBA goals
--------------

Am interested in switching to a career in finance after MBA - More specifically a job in product structuring/fixed income analytics. I have also passed CFA level 1 exams.

Many thanks for your comments

While your GMAT is excellent and highly competitive, I'm afraid that your relative lack of work experience and mediocre college record will hurt your chances at Tuck. Certainly with a 750, I can't say that you don't have a chance, but I'm not optimistic.

Look into Chicago, Columbia, NYU, and UCLA.

Good luck!

Hey [#permalink] New post 22 Aug 2005, 16:25
Hey Linda,

I was just wondering, based on your response it seems that Tuck looks for people with experience and/or strong undergrad....Am I correct to assume that from you email?

Are there certain schools that weigh work experience more so than undergrad gpa? If so I was wondering if you could provide some color on this. The reason behind my question is that my undergrad is relatively weak where everything else on my profile (work, extra cirr., an alt. transcript, gmat) is strong.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
JP

JP,

All schools would rather have applicants with high undergrad GPAs than low GPAs. That's not limited to Tuck. Certainly your 750 and recent As will go a long way to help you overcome your undergrad GPA.

Tuck, however, does prefer experienced applicants. You will be much less experienced than most Tuckies. That doesn't mean you shouldn't apply; it does mean you shouldn't apply exclusively to Tuck.

Good luck!
