Admission for Canadian B-Schools issue [#permalink] New post 19 Dec 2009, 03:36
Hi,

I want to continue my higher education in Business at Canada or States area till PhD. I have already did one Master degree in International Business(NOT exactly MBA). Could you plz guide me whether should I do their own MBA(Canada) degree first to get PhD for example for Queen's University at Canada? Because I don't want to be reject only because I applied directly for their PhD while I did not do MBA degree at Canadian Universities!! My bachelor degree is electrical. I am preparing for GMAT to keep myself at cutting edge for getting admission from Canadian B-Schools. I really appreciate if anybody help me in this are.thanks.

an mba isn't a prerequisite for a canadian phd and won't help you get in as much as you'd think. an mba is more practical and will help you land a good job afterwards, a phd is more academic and you'll have to stay in academia afterwards.

if you really want to do a phd, why not do a masters first in your area of interest? if it's finance, do a masters in finance. if it's economics, do a masters in economics. but an mba is vastly different from these degrees as it feeds its graduates directly into the work force about 95% of the time.
