What do you guys think of that site? Is it good to analyze trends? Emory is one of my top choices so I figured I would check them out on Admissions411. Of the 31 people with 700+ who applied for Fall 2008, only 9 reported dings (all 9 reporting they were from India). How representative do you think this site is? Cheerio!

I think the site is inherently biased. When people get dinged, they don't exactly rush out to tell everyone (In my opinion), but when they get accepted, they want to tell everyone and their neighbor...
Thus, I would imagine the site's percentage of people dinged is probably quite low compared to actuality.

agreed with sam - however, if you look at the accepted number (and %) it should be somewhat representative. Though again, the sites users are not a representative sample of the average applicant imo.

Its only as accurate as people are honest. A few things to remember much like this site a lot of people the people that use that are the most driven during the application process and also a quiet a few come from hyper competitive demographics. This why admit rates tend to appear rather high for all but the very top schools but also why some people with impressive GMATs and GPAs get tons of dings. It is interesting to dig into the data and its also helpful with judging timelines.

On here during B-school yes, not to the extent I was last year but I will be around to answer questions about Kellogg and recruiting. I am going to be doing GM recruiting in an uncommon industry so I should be able to give a different perspective chasing things on my own not necessarily through school recruiting. After school I probably will stop by now and again, especially if people I have gotten to know on here are still stopping by. Maybe by that time we will have a section for alums. B-school is all about networking...we already have our little network filled with people at every single top school.

Admissions411 is somewhat useful for their % numbers and checking out what sort of stats got in. Other than that, I wouldn't put too much weight on the people who post there.

What are everyone's thoughts on Admissions411? Are the stats on there a bit inflated? It seems like the average APPLICANT who applies to M7 schools on Admissions411 has an average GMAT score of 720 - is this really representative of the whole pool?

I think that in general, a lot of the people on Admissions411 are a self-selecting group. They're often from super-competitive groups, and consequently often have really high test scores/GPAs. That's not to say that the acutal statistics of applicants are significantly lower than those on Admissions411. I just think Admissions411 is good to look at and intersting, but I wouldn't draw too many concrete conclusions from it. Just my 2 cents.

It seems to me that the site is biased towards those who are over-achievers and have high stats to begin with. The average GMAT of applicants to M7 schools on admissions411 is around a 720. I would be hard pressed to believe that this is the average GMAT of the applicant pool in general.

That would be pretty interesting if the average applicant GMAT was 720 but the average matriculating student GMAT was 705 or so.

I have always heard that the applicants to the M7s average a little over 700 GMAT.

~Sam That seems more reasonable to me than the applicants averaging 720.

I hope you stay... so many get overwhelmed with the MBA and don't come back (fluffy, econgirl, dukes, lhotseface).... especially during recruiting. I'm already seriously dreading it. merged the two threads with identical topics. ironically, terp06 responded to the first thread 6 days before he posted a new 2nd thread.
