actually, i do have a question. i guess i should start thinking about how to finance an mba. are there merit scholarships aside from the one that requires an additional essay? if so, how do we apply/find out about them? if not, are there other scholarships we can apply for is it strictly loans and financial aid?

I'm in as well! Thanks for starting this thread, kryzak.
Ditto on the questions that peaceyall asked. Berkeley has one of the lowest tuition costs of all the top MBA programs, but are there any other scholarships that admitted students can get/apply for?

alright, to answer financial aid stuff, here's what I know: Scholarships: - The Haas Merit and Achievement Scholarships are given out when you get admitted. The Merit Scholarship requires no application, and the Achievement scholarship you would have written the essay in the original application already. - There are other scholarships that you can apply later on, one of them is the Maxwell Fellowship (full tuition) which you'll get notice for around March. You need to write 4 more short essays and it's aimed at people who are interested in entrepreneurship or want to learn about entrepreneurship. - There are some other scholarships that you can find here: http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/MBA/finaid ... dlHaas.htmhttp://www.haas.berkeley.edu/MBA/finaid ... pEnter.htmLoans: - The school is providing some no-cosigner loan for international students this year, so that will be sent out later Otherwise, I think that's all the scholarships and financial aid that the school gives out. The rest you can learn in the admit website (add yourself to the Facebook and Google Groups. Those are our main means of communication). Let me know if you have more questions. See you at Days at Haas 1 (4/2-4/4)!!

Which Admit Weekend are people planning on attending? I am tentatively planning to go to the April 2-5 one, but it conflicts with a prior committment I have that Saturday, so I might try to make the one later in the month.

Alright let's talk about something important--what kind of swag can we expect in the admit package? Kryzak, what did you get last year?

I just received my binder from Haas. This is a great resource for planning and learning more about the school. No swag though.
By the way, Haas' tuition is increasing dramatically over the next two years. Here's the rundown:
2009-2010 In-State: $33860 Non-resident: $43074
2010-2011 In-State: $42000 (estimate) Non-resident: $50000 (estimate)
Kryzak, does this mean that Haas to converting to a private financing model? This tuition is pretty close to all the private schools (and UMich Ross). Hopefully this will help them weather the California budget cuts.

Hopefully this will help them weather the California budget cuts. I guess it's good that Haas disclosed that information to admits. That's a huge increase in tuition. $50,000 per year? One of Haas' big draw for me is it's comparatively low tuition. At $50,000, it's going to be hard to attract students if other comparable schools doesn't hike up the tuition that much. From the big gap between in-state and non-resident tuition, it seems Haas is keeping the public model (at least in the next two years). The "private" publics usually have a narrower margin between in-state and non-resident tuition.

yes, this was passed 1-2 years ago by the UC Regents, for some of the UC professional schools (Berkeley, LA, and SF Business/Law schools) to go into mostly private school financing models. That is one reason why Haas is still planning on hiring 11 full-time tenured professors in the next year. The $50K is roughly going to match all the private schools in 2 years, so the non-resident fees will be on par with the top private schools. Residents still get a good discount though. We (the students and the staff) are brainstorming how this increased tuition will translate into increased services to match all the private business schools. Exciting times to come!
