Let's look at the bright side for a second. Firstly, it's great that they actually gave us that list in the red folder - I admire their transparency.
From a quick count - approximately half the class has internships/ full-time offers and from reading the first page of the March 7 issue of Cornell Business (also in the red folder they gave us) - look at article 'Finding the Elusive Job" by Karin Ash of the CMC - she states "Even in good markets, among the top business schools, most full-time job offers are made in November, April, May, and June. Half of the first-year class receives their job offers in April and May" so hopefully numbers should look a lot better by next month.
And although MC, IB recruiting looks bleak - others functions (especially marketing) job stats are looking much better.

Let's try to keep a positive outlook.
It is difficult to hear some of these horror internship/recruiting numbers and stories when we are investing a lot in the next 2 years.
Personally, I try not to look at what is happening this year - mainly because if I want to keep my sanity, ignorance might be bliss. It's brutal out there for many bschool students and I feel lucky that I will not be part of the class who has to enter the job market this year.
Lately, whenever I hear bad news about job numbers or the economy, I keep telling myself - "If you look at most top bschool's employment reports, there isn't a single period where the employment numbers are below the norm for 3 straight years (especially after a crisis year). So if we consider this year's job market as the crisis year, by the time year 2011 rolls around, we should be okay. At least that's the bubble I try to create around me.

Did you guys see this? leak-usnews-2010-mba-rankings-yale-som-breaks-top-77830.htmlIs Cornell's Johnson school so bad or what? I have been hearing a lot of negative things about it and these rankings are just confirming my worst fears. Not that I am admitted there, but it's just disappointing. Also, no co signer loan for internationals at 13%. Isn't that outrageous??

str1der, why not exclusively target H/S/W? Then you need not worry about other schools' rankings, as those former 3 are almost ensured to remain thoroughly ensconced in the USNews top 5.

I didn't mean that Cornell is bad. I just meant that according to me these rankings do not reflect the true caliber of the Johnson school and was trying to explore that area. In fact Cornell's been my dream destination since an early age. So seeing these kind of rankings disappointed me. That's what I was saying.

Cornell seems to focus on BW rankings. When I visited, the faculty spoke about the BW rankings and how they've done throughout the years... they really went on and on about BW but didn't mention the US news rankings once. I'm not sure how the two rankings compare as far as methodology but there has to be a huge difference between the two.
Ex:
Yale US News 10 (supposedly) BW 24
Cornell US News 17 (supposedly) BW 11
Huge differences there.
Either way, I think Cornell should focus on US News rankings - it seems to be the most widely used reference point for rankings. Plus if Yale can shoot up so quickly, I'm sure Cornell can do the same if they stressed the heavily weighted items in the US News ranking methodology.
Ultimately the rankings are just a game. If Cornell wants to be seen as "elite" within the rankings, then the faculty needs to play the game a little better.
