Even I'm thinking a week before KWEST - Mid Aug.

Maybe we can have a gmatclub get together in Evanston before we leave for KWEST

That's around when I'll be getting out there too. Sounds like a good idea to me.

It looks like we should hear with our KWEST selections by the second week of June. The KWEST FAQ has been updated.

Anyone contemplating not getting the Kellogg laptop? There was a suggestion for ASUS on the thread but I was wondering if the consensus viewpoint is that Klg laptop is good value.

There's a sizable group here that don't have KLP laptops. The biggest subgroup is Mac users, but there's plenty of people - myself included - who have non KLP PC laptops. However, our year's KLP model was roughly the size and weight of a 747, so the move to a compact laptop may have induced more people to get it. For me, the only real positive of the KLP is the service. If anything goes wrong, KIS will fix it or replace it, and give you a loaner in the meantime. On the downside was the size (better this year) and as it turns out the KLP laptops seem to have some reliability issues (much higher than any other Lenovo laptop I've ever seen). Don't know if the reliability issue is unique to the T400 model, and will be resolved for next year. I personally have an X200 and have *knock on wood* never had any issues with reliability.

babybyme, I didn't apply for McManus, and as of last week, the other admits I know that did apply had not heard anything, but good luck!

Jerz, the KLP machine for next year is the x201, which I believe is the successor to your machine. Hopefully the laptops will combine the reliability of your current machine with the great KLP service.

conflicting pieces of info

On the McManus' website it says the results of the lottery will be out on May 19 but on the admitted students website - under the housing tab - it says

For convenience, cost savings and a great opportunity to live inside the Kellogg community, on-campus housing offers one-stop shopping. Applications for the McManus Living-Learning Center are available online beginning April 1, and notification of apartment assignments are e-mailed to you in mid-May for 1Y students and early June for 2Y students

Jerz/Riverripper,

Any idea on how and when the loan amount will be disbursed?

'When' as in how many days after CIM?

Congratulations to all the Kellogg 2012 folks. I have a question for y'all. Where are you all headed after your MBA? I mean what are the internships that everybody wants? CBOT?, Chase? Do you plan to stay in Chi-town?

Thanks,
Skip

Loans are disbursed on the first day of each academic quarter (although your bank may not process the transfer for another day or two). Since CIM actually takes place before the fall quarter, you won't receive any loan funds until CIM ends and the fall quarter officially begins in mid-September. So you should plan on having enough money from savings or whatever to hold you through until then.

The Kellogg CMC website has pretty detailed statistics on where people go for internships and full-time. It's hard to say what internships "everybody wants" since everyone has their own career goals, but the popular internships are about what you'd expect: M/B/B, Goldman, Morgan, Apple, Google, P&G, etc. In terms of location, only about 25% of the class stays in the Chicago area.

Also of general interest, the 2010 Ski Trip location was announced last night: Snowmass, CO (http://www.aspensnowmass.com/)

I'd highly recommend this trip, even if you're a non-skier. It's a ton of fun and one of the highlights of the year.

Def. looks like a lot of fun! What dates would it be? Trying to figure out if I should bring my snowboard with me or leave it home and bring it out next time.

One other question for anybody who might know. What are the typical dates for a summer internship at Kellogg? I'm looking into doing some volunteer work during my summer either before or after my internship and wanted to see how long I would have. Is that something that a lot of people do?

You most likely wont have time to do anything before or after your internship unless you take a very short one. I believe you will get 12 or 13 weeks off over the summer and most internships are 10-12 weeks. Most start mid june and run until the end of august...there is plenty of volunteer opportunities during the school year though if you really want to do something.

Ski trip is Dec. 11-17, 2010, the week right after fall finals.

Thanks Jerz! Def. will try to make it out to the ski trip.

In other news, just heard back from Student Affairs that we should be hearing about our McManus notifications tomorrow by email.
