I don't really know enough about housing there. Visited a little less than a month ago. Talked about it a little bit then, but I think come welcome weekend I'll get a better feel. Are you definitely going to Tepper? As for me, I'd like them to give me more money (Emory offered 30k per yr; CMU costs about 10k more and didn't offer anywhere near Emory's numbers), but I think their program fits me a better. QSRP is pre-orientation mathcamp? As an applied math major, I hope I don't need that refresher, but I would like to meet the rest of the class that week if I do choose to go there. What are your thoughts on all of this.

What are your thoughts on all of this. I would love to see you at Tepper. Most stay in Shadyside or Squirrelhill.I believe students can use the local transit system for free. I'm headed to Tepper.QSRP is the pre-orientation thing.I remember seeing a quiz kind of thing on their admitted student website. You can look at it and if you feel comfortable with those problems, you can skip the QSRP.But it is only $750 and you get to meet your classmates early on. What are your post-MBA goals? Do your target companies recruit at Emory? I stay in Atlanta and been to Emory a couple of times. It boils down to what you want to do post-MBA.

I want to start my own hedge fund. Post MBA, I'd like to trade for a buyside desk, hopefully at a good fund. From that aspect, Tepper is a much better fit. I'm also from NY, and while I'm not tied to NY geographically, I'd prefer to be back here. And for that, I think Tepper is also better than Emory. My background is in applied math (Johns Hopkins '06), worked at Susquehanna as an assistant trader for a year, then worked at JPMorgan for 2 years. I loved my time at SIG, didn't exactly love the environment at JPM, and am very focused at this point to get back onto the buyside. That being said, I want to improve my leadership, team building, motivational, and negotiating skills. To improve these softer skills, Emory might be a little better. Ultimately, I think there's a very strong chance I'll be at CMU. The program is stronger in hedge funds, both during the time in school and the alumni network. Ultimately, you want the program with the most long term upside, and I think CMU gives me that. I just wish they'd come down in price a little bit. The difference in cost for me is about $60k. What are you looking to do?

Then go to Tepper.I'm doing a career switch from IT to MC. Do you know Stacy Gilbert at SIG? She comes on CNBC.I like her. http://www.cnbc.com/id/30226117/

Yep - she taped not far from my desk. If I stood up at the wrong time, I'd have been on CNBC. Probably was a few times. Stacey is pretty bright. Don't know her personally. I didn't have anything to do with equities.

Hey guys,
I'll be going to Tepper unless I get into Booth, which seems highly unlikely at this point! I was planning on looking for a place during welcome weekend but I do not have any leads as of now. I signed up for the off-campus search engine on the countdown website which was not particularly helpful.
Do either of you plan on buying the IBM thinkpad through CMU? I saw most students using this laptop model but I'm not a big fan.

I need to do the whole find a place in Pittsburgh thing too. I heard shadyside is great. As far as laptops go, I love my macbook pro and intend to use it for a very long time. Posted from my mobile device

Yeah, it seems like Shadyside is #1 and Squirrel Hill #2. It would definitely be more helpful to hear specific suggestions from Tepper students. Maybe I'll try reaching out to one of the current students who called me a few months ago.

rao_1857, glad to see you choose Tepper!
Does anyone have a good interpretation of the dress code for Welcome Weekend? The FAQ says "very casual" but does this mean that jeans + dress shirt are okay, or is it a little more formal than that? I know that the Heinz Field event is business casual.

This post received KUDOS
I will probably wear jeans and a nice top except to Heinz Field. The point is for them to try to impress us, not the other way around.
