Advertisement: According to a recent research study, daily use of Fresh Start, a new toothpaste, reduces the risk of developing dental cavities by over 20 percent. In addition,as a result of a new formula, the use of Fresh Start results in whiter, healthier-looking teeth. Clearly, Fresh Start not only gives your teeth a beautiful look but also provides the most reliable protection against dental cavities.
Which of the following is an assumption in the argument above? (A) No other toothpaste provides more reliable protection against dental cavities. (B) Fresh Start's formula does a better job of whitening teeth than do competitor's formulas. (C) People are just as interested in having beautiful teeth as they are in having healthy teeth. (D) Fresh Start also prevents other dental disorders, such as gingivitis. (E) Reliable protection against dental cavities, combined with excellent aesthetic properties, is likely to make Fresh Start a popular toothpaste on the market.

The conclusion of the stem says: bholakc wrote: Clearly, Fresh Start [...] provides the most reliable protection against dental cavities. For the argument to conclude that Fresh Start is the *most* reliable protection against cavities, it's certainly assuming that "no other toothpaste provides more reliable protection against dental cavities", which is what A says. We really don't care whether people are more interested in healthy teeth or in beautiful teeth, so C is not right.

The answer will be C if conclusion is "the people will use more fresh start toothpaste than other toothpaste".

I choose C.
(A) No other toothpaste provides more reliable protection against dental cavities. already stated in the conclusion (B) Fresh Start's formula does a better job of whitening teeth than do competitor's formulas. a fact presented in the argument (C) People are just as interested in having beautiful teeth as they are in having healthy teeth. The author assumes that people are concrened about beautiful teeth as they are interested in having healthy teeth. Perhaps, people are only interested in having healthy teeth. (D) Fresh Start also prevents other dental disorders, such as gingivitis. out of scope. (E) Reliable protection against dental cavities, combined with excellent aesthetic properties, is likely to make Fresh Start a popular toothpaste on the market. out of scope

IMO with A. the conclusion of the problem is "Fresh Start not only gives your teeth a beautiful look but also provides the most reliable protection against dental cavities" langauge used here is "most reliable" means there is no other way to get more reliable protection against dental cavities. Answer choice A states this asumption.

I think it is A. Although the answer uses extreme language it is appropriate here as conclusion also uses extreme language.

+1 A E doesn't make sense. It is out of scope.
