Therefore, be smart and insist on brand-name parts by Clark for your car.
The argument requires the assumption that

The only option that seems to make sense is (A).
B. foreign-made parts are not suitable for cars manufactured in this country
This isn't quite right, the piece says that the foreign parts might be unreliable
C. no foreign-made parts satisfy our government standards
As above
D. parts that satisfy our government standards are not as poorly constructed as cheap foreign-made parts
No mention of satisfying government standards in piece
E. if parts are made for cars manufactured in our country, they are not poorly constructed
No - because cheap foreign made parts may be made for cars in this country

Statement says "with the foreign parts" then it has to assume that they are unreliable. If we exclude this statement dosent stand alone.
My answer is B.

i'll go for C. the argument claims that clark parks are good because they satisfy government standards. then, the argument undermines the foreign made parts without showing whether the foreign made parts also met government standards. to be that negative without any proof, the argument must assume that the foreign made parts never met the standards in the first place.

OA is B...
In my opinion BCD are all valid assumptions that work.
My guess was C. When I negated C, the conclusion fell apart so i guessed it. B was tied with C for me. I just said C to give an answer.
Now reading ur posts, D seems valid as well.

on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the hardest, what would you rate this problem? It seems like bunch of people used the same technique (negation) and all got different answers.

I belive option 'A' is right as
"Clark brand-name parts are made for cars manufactured in this country"
It suggest clark brand name parts are made for the cars manufactured only in this country.

Not true. Ad says you can't tell which parts are reliable and which ones aren't, indicating that some foreign parts are reliable.

Not mentioned.

Not in love with this one, but I think it fits better.

i think the difference between b and c is that the language used in C is much stronger than b. notice that the language used in the argument is quite mild when taking about the foreign-made parts: that "you never know which might be reliable..." so the author has acknowledged the possibility that some might be reliable. that's the only thing i can see.
